The trip begins with a 45-minute catamaran ride along the steep-walled fjords connecting Skagway to Haines. Over a dozen unnamed waterfalls drop hundreds of feet from the cliffsides on both sides of the boat. Learn about Tlingit culture, marvel at the scenery and look for humpback whales, harbor seals, and a variety of seabirds.
Once in Haines, meet your expert local guide and join us for a great afternoon of wildlife viewing! Haines is known as the Valley of the Eagles. A robust local eagle population combined with abundant fish runs makes Haines a great place to view and learn about eagles. Your expert local guide will have a powerful spotting scope to bring the majestic birds in close. The guide knows the seasonal movements of the eagles and will take you where the odd of seeing eagles are the highest. On this tour you’re likely to see an active eagle nest, mergansers, otters and the floods of salmon which call this river home – as well as nibble on some edible native berries and learn about the natural history of southeast Alaska – all while majestic eagles are swooping overheard.
